After the season, the defender's contract was extended by a year, but during the summer break it was announced that Buckley had signed a contract in the system of the San Jose Sharks from the National Hockey League . After the pre-season training camp, they sent him to the farm team, to the Worcester Sharks from the AHL.

He started the 2009/10 season with the Chicago Wolves in the AHL before he was signed by the EHC Linz in November 2009. In July 2010 he moved to Ritten Sport from the Italian A1 series . After the 2010/11 season, the American ended his active career.
