The 1999/2000 WHL season was the 34th season of the Western Hockey League . The Calgary Hitmen won the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy as the team with the highest points in the preliminary round . In the playoff final, the Kootenay Ice prevailed against the Spokane Chiefs and thus secured their first President's Cup .

Changes

With the beginning of the 1999/2000 season, the Western Hockey League introduced overtime , following the example of the National Hockey League . As in the NHL, the winner of the overtime will receive two points and the loser one point. If the game still does not find a winner after five minutes of overtime, which is played in 4-on-4 mode, the game will be counted as a draw.
