Brad Moran (born March 20, 1979 in Abbotsford , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Nottingham Panthers from the British Elite Ice Hockey League since August 2015 .
Moran is regarded as a technically adept center whose qualities as a player-maker come into play, especially in the majority game. He appears equally as a goal scorer and assists, but could not prevail in the National Hockey League due to his running and physical deficits .
In Germany, Moran caused a sensation within the ice hockey scene because of a multiple failed move to the German ice hockey league . In 2006, 2007 and 2008 he had signed preliminary contracts with Hamburg Freezers and ERC Ingolstadt , respectively , but ultimately decided on other offers in all three cases.
Career
Moran began his career in the 1995/96 season with the Calgary Hitmen in the Western Hockey League and was there five seasons on the ice, most recently even as team captain . With the Hitmen he won the Ed Chynoweth Cup in the 1998/99 season and received the Bob Clarke Trophy for the player with the most scorer points and the award as Player of the Year in the following season .
In the summer of 2000, the Columbus Blue Jackets from the National Hockey League signed him, where he was used almost exclusively in the then farm team of the Blue Jackets , the Syracuse Crunch in the American Hockey League , and thus only five appearances for Columbus in seven years graduated in the NHL. For the season 2005/06, Moran decided for the first time for a move to Europe and joined the SCL Tigers of the Swiss National League A , where he briefly at the end of the season after an injury to the EHC Visp in the second-class National League B was loaned .
In the summer of 2006 he was obliged by the Vancouver Canucks from the NHL, but played the entire 2006/07 season with their farm team, the Manitoba Moose from the AHL. In the run-up to the 2007/08 season, the Hamburg Freezers from the German Ice Hockey League announced the commitment of Moran, who was originally supposed to come to Hamburg the year before, but switched to the Canucks shortly before an agreed release clause expired . However, the transfer did not materialize again, as the striker accepted a contract offer from Vancouver immediately before the start of the season, under which he was offered the chance to play in the NHL. After three games for the Canucks , Moran was returned to the farm team in Manitoba, where he spent the rest of the 2007/08 season.
The left-handed shooter then moved back to Europe and played for two years in the Elitserien at Skellefteå AIK from the 2008/09 season . After a short stopover with the Oklahoma City Barons from the American Hockey League in the 2010/11 season , Moran went back to Sweden and was on the ice for the Växjö Lakers from the 2011/12 season . During the 2012/13 season he was first transferred to the Finnish club SaiPa in the SM-Liiga , before he was signed by EHC Linz from the Austrian ice hockey league in April 2013 .
