Växjö Lakers Hockey is an ice hockey club from Växjö in Sweden that was founded in 1997, has played in the Svenska Hockeyligan since 2011 and won the championship for the first time in 2015. The club's home games are played in the Vida Arena .
history
The parent club of the Växjö Lakers was founded in 1971. In 1997 the ice hockey department was outsourced and from then on it was called Växjö Lakers Hockey . Initially, the club played in the third-class Division 1 , whose championship the club won in 2002 and 2003. In 2003 he was promoted to HockeyAllsvenskan. In the 2010/11 season, the team won the HockeyAllsvenskan championship and qualified for the Kvalserien for promotion to the Elitserien . In this the team won a total of nine of the ten games and thus rose to the first division for the first time.
In addition to the professional team, the club also has youth teams of all ages and a women's team.
Home ground
The Växjö Ishall was initially used for the club teams' home games . It was built in 1970 and, since a renovation in 2006, has offered space for 4015 spectators. The club had the best average attendance in the old hall in the first second division season 2003/04, when an average of 2977 spectators attended the home games. At the beginning of the 2011/12 season, the club moved to the new Vida Arena.
