The Association of German Brokers for Real Estate, House Management and Financing eV (VDM) was founded in 1963 by Hans Joachim Blumenauer with 15 other real estate agents and was one of the former two nationwide professional associations of real estate agents and property managers . From 1971 to 1973 Hans-Peter Gebhardt was President; the VDM had 800 members at the time. In 1989 the VDM had 1,000 members and in 1996 the association had around 2,500 member companies.

In 2004, the previously independent traditional associations Verband Deutscher Makler (VDM) and Ring Deutscher Makler (RDM) became the Real Estate Association Germany IVD, the Federal Association of Real Estate Consultants, Brokers, Administrators and Experts .

The VDM was a founding member of the European Real Estate Association Conféderation Européenne de l'Immobilier (CEI)
