history

The club was founded in 1930 and reached the second Swedish division for the first time in 1958. After the team had remained luckless in their first qualifying games for the Fotbollsallsvenskan in 1961 , they had more success in 1967 and rose. In the first year in the top division you could win the title. Further championships followed in 1978, 1980 and 1981. In 1977 Öster won the national cup competition. The big man of the club ("Mr. Öster") was Stig Svensson. After the club was relegated in 1988, it reached the Allsvenskan again in 1990. In the following years, Östers IF became an elevator team between the 1st and 2nd leagues, until relegation to third-class Division 1 followed in the 2007 season. In 2008, the return to the second division was only missed in the promotion game, when Jönköpings Södra IF was able to prevail with a 3-0 victory. In 2009, Öster first managed to get promoted back to the Superettan and in 2012 returned to the Allsvenskan, from which, however, they were relegated in the following season in 2013 as the penultimate. In 2016 Öster became Södra champion in Division 1 and rose again to the second division.

Östers IF has been playing in the "Myresjöhus Arena" since 2012, which cost the equivalent of around € 19 million and offers space for 12,000 spectators. The opening game took place on September 3rd against IFK Värnamo.
