Norrby IF is a Swedish football club from Norrby, a district of Borås . The team competed in the Allsvenskan for one season , but currently only plays second class.

history

The association was founded on April 27, 1927 as Norrbygärde IF . In 1940, the team appeared for the first time in the third division, where it was subsequently able to establish itself in the middle of the table. In 1949 it was renamed to its current name. With this succeeded by a clear margin, the relay victory and thus the promotion to the second division .

Norrby IF could quickly establish itself in the second division in the front area. 1955 succeeded before IFK Malmö and the local rivals IF Elfsborg the championship in the Götaland relay and thus the promotion to the Allsvenskan. However, three wins and six draws were not enough to stay up in the Swedish elite series. With three points behind Västerås SK , the immediate relegation had to be accepted.

Until the early 1960s Norrby IF belonged regularly to the top group of the second division, but could no longer land on a promotion place. 1964 took place as third last because of the worse goal difference compared to the same point competitor Varbergs BoIS the crash into the third division. In 1967, the team was able to earn their return to the second division, until 1971 the team changed regularly between the leagues. Until 1975, the team regularly missed promotion despite good placements, which was achieved thanks to the better goal difference in the promotion games against the tied Råå IF and Hässleholms IF .

This time Norrby IF sat down in the second division and in 1978 the team failed just behind IS Halmia in the promotion race. The Halmstad club recorded one defeat less and were able to play two points ahead. The good season was followed by a crash: with two points behind GAIS , the club from Borås left the second division again in tenth place. 1981 Norrby IF was about to return to the second division. As a season winner, the team took part in the promotion games. There they failed in the first round after a 1-1 draw in their own place with a goalless draw in the second leg due to the away goals rule . Two years later, the club did better: on penalties , the team prevailed against Spånga IS and were back in second place.

Twice Norrby IF was able to place in the middle of the table. In the third year of membership in the second division, however, only the eleventh place in the table jumped out, the club rose again. In 1988 the team found themselves in the third division in a relegation battle, but managed to stay one point ahead of relegated Varbergs BoIS . After the team had played their way back to the top of the league, they returned to the second division in 1994. IFK Malmö were eliminated in the first round, followed by a 2-0 win and a 2-2 draw against Jonsereds IF .

As table eleventh of the second division Norrby IF had to relegation. There they lost the home game after a 2-2 draw on a foreign pitch with 1: 2 against Motala AIF and were only third-rate again. However, the immediate return succeeded as the season winner. A tenth place was followed by eleventh place in 1998. So the team had to compete again in the relegation games. Again, a draw in the first leg was followed by a defeat in the second leg and so the club Myresjö IF had to give way to the second round, where they also failed. With that, Norrby IF said goodbye to the second division.

In the third division succeeded the relay win and thus the qualification for the promotion games. With five points, however, only the second place behind Ljungby IF was occupied and thus the direct re-promotion was missed. In 2002 the crash into the fourth division took place, but the team managed to get up again immediately. As runner-up, one point behind Husqvarna FF , the newly promoted team missed a direct march into the second division. A year later, as runner-up behind Jönköpings Södra IF, they qualified for the reformed third division, from which the team was relegated to Division 2 in 2008 as penultimate . With 14 wins in 22 games, she succeeded in the immediate resurgence.
