history
Akropolis IF was founded in 1968 by Greek immigrants as a basketball club, a year later football was added as a further sport. The football team marched through the lower leagues until 1980 and in 1980 reached fourth division for the first time, combined with increased interest from the Swedish press due to the immigrant background. The basketball players were also successful in the 1980s and rose to the third division in 1987. The team then split under the name Akropol BBK .
Had the Akropolis IF footballers established themselves in the middle part of the Swedish league pyramid, the team returned to fourth division for the 2000 season. After the direct relegation, it took four years to rise again, as a victim of a league reform, the stay lasted only one season. Through the barrage against Bollnäs GIF and Älvsjö AIK , this time they returned immediately and in the following years the club established itself in the front midfield. With seven points ahead of Enskede IK , the team sat at the top of their fourth division season in the 2010 season and made their first promotion to the third division. After being represented in the third division 1 division for the first time in 2011 and 2012 , the club played again in the fourth division second division from 2013 , before the football team made it to third division again in 2015 and even for promotion to the second division of the Landes played along.
After Akropolis IF qualified for the relegation games to Superettan at the end of the 2017 season as second in the table, but failed there due to the away goals rule at IK Frej , the club managed at the end of the third division season 2019 after only one season defeat as champions of the northern season with 19 points Ahead of Umeå FC's second place in the table, the first jump into the second highest division.
