IK Frej is a Swedish sports club from Täby . In 2015, the club's soccer team played for the first time in the club's history in the second-rate Superettan .

history

IK Frej was founded in February 1968 as an ice hockey club , a short time later a youth football department was created, from which an adult team was formed in 1974. Other departments followed in the following years, but were partially given up again.

After the club's young footballers were successful several times in the traditional youth tournament St. Erikscupen, success also began in the adult sector at the beginning of the 21st century. At the end of the 2001 season, the team rose to fourth division, three years later as the champions of Division 3 Norra Svealand, the first promotion to third division was certain. Here, however, the club had no chance and only got ten points after two victories this season. As bottom of the table, the club was the victim of a league reform and was classified two leagues lower.

With just one defeat of the season, the IK Frej football team took the lead in their fifth division and rose to the fourth division as the season winner before Akropolis IF . At the same time, the team won the regional cup and qualified for the first time for the Svenska Cup , where they failed in the second round at Ljungby IF after an opening success against Visby IF Gute . Initially placed in the midfield of the fourth division, the team dominated the game in 2010 and won the relay with seven points ahead of Sollentuna United FF , which meant promotion to Division 1.

In 2014, the club was promoted to the second-class Superettan 2015 .
