The Motala Allmänna Idrotts Förening (Motala AIF for short) is a Swedish sports club from Motala . The club is best known for its soccer team , which played one season in the Allsvenskan .
history
Motala AIF was founded on August 29, 1907.
Soccer
The soccer team, created in 1908, appeared for the first time in 1928 when they became runner- up as a promoted player in Division 3 and only narrowly missed the march into the second division . A year later, the team won the season, but failed in the promotion games to Kalmar AIK .
In 1932 Motala AIF benefited from an expansion of the second division to four seasons. As runner-up behind Åtvidabergs IF , the promotion to the second division could be celebrated. The stay in the second division lasted only two years, before 1934 with only ten points the relegation could no longer be avoided. In 1937 the club was able to win the third division championship and returned to the second division. However, you could only stay there for two years.
Motala AIF was able to establish itself in the front part of the table, but regularly missed the championship. 1943 succeeded the relay victory, but failed because of Jönköpings Södra IF in the promotion games. In 1947, the team missed the qualification for the new third division, which comprised only four seasons instead of 17.
In 1950 Motala AIF managed to return to the third division, which was followed there in the Östra season of the championship. This enabled the direct march through to the second division. This time the team was able to establish itself in the second division and in 1953 there was already third place in the table. 1957 succeeded the relay victory and thus the team could compete in the promotion games to Allsvenskan against Örgryte IS . With a 3: 4 away win and a clear 4: 0 win in her own place, she made it into the Swedish elite series.
In the Allsvenskan Motala AIF finished last with six wins of the season and seven draws and the resulting 19 points. In the second division, the team was only able to place itself in midfield and in 1963 they rose to the third division. It took until 1975 before she could qualify as a season winner for the promotion games. As second behind Västerås SK , the ascent was made perfect. With two points behind Råå IF , however, the club missed the league as third from bottom. The dream of direct re-promotion was only slowed down in the promotion games, when only the last place was occupied without a point behind IK Brage , BK Häcken and Degerfors IF . Also in 1979, the team missed as third without scoring behind BK Forward and Karlstad BK in the promotion games the promotion.
1980 Molata AIF rose after a close relegation battle from the third division. The season ended tied with Malmslätts AIK , who scored more goals with the same goal difference. Without a defeat, the club managed to get promoted again.
In 1988 Motala AIF won the championship in the relay division 2 Mellersta and thus returned to the second division. In 1992, however, the team rose again and as third in the table, the direct rise was missed. In 1995 the club finished the season in second place and qualified again for the promotion games to Division 1 . There Norrby IF was initially eliminated, before after a 2-2 draw on another pitch and a 1-1 draw at home against IFK Trelleborg because of the away goals rule, the promotion to the second division was made perfect.
In the summary of the second division in 1999 Motala AIF could not qualify for the single-track Superettan and was relegated to the third division 2. There the relay win was won and after BK Forward was beaten in the promotion games, they managed to return directly to the second division. However, as the bottom of the table, they went straight down again. In 2003 the crash into fourth class followed. In 2007 the team became champions of Division 2 Mellersta Götaland and returned to the third division. Here, however, it only lasted two years, but the descent was followed by a direct ascent.
ice Hockey
The club's ice hockey team played in Division 1 , the third highest division in Sweden , from 2004 to 2007 . After the team was even relegated to Division 3 in 2014 , they returned to Division 2 in 2015 .
