The Skövde AIK is a Swedish football club in Skövde . The club played several seasons in the second highest Swedish league .

history

Skövde AIK was founded on June 21, 1919. Originally the club also had a department for athletics, later other departments such as handball, ice hockey etc. a. added. The club has been a pure football club since 1990. The club experienced its heyday in football in 1970 when it lost the qualifier for the Swedish highest league Allsvenskan .

Under coach Arne Selmosson , who was a vice world champion from 1958 and a former Italian professional, Skövde AIK rose, not to be confused with local rivals Skövde IF , in the third division in 1965 and for the first time in 1966 in the then four-track, second division and immediately took top positions. Even from 1969, under Selmossen's successor, the club remained at the top, even when the second division was reduced from four to three and later only to two groups. This remained so until 1974. In 1975, the second to last of the southern group, the relegation took place. Only between 1991 and 1993 should Skövde AIK return to the second class for three years. In 1995 another year followed in the second division, something that has not been achieved since then.

In the 2005 season Skövde AIK rose from the fifth division, Division 3 Mellersta Götaland , to the fourth-class Division 2 Mellersta Götaland . In the following season 2006 succeeded the renewed promotion to the third class Division 1 Södra . Initially placed in the middle of the table, the club took second place in the table in the 2009 season, tied with season winner Östers IF due to the poorer goal difference. Although he missed the direct promotion to the Superettan , but was for the relegation games against the second division 13. FC Trollhättan qualified. However, the competitor won both games.
