The Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna Trelleborg is a Swedish sports club from Trelleborg . The club is best known for its soccer and handball teams . The handball team playing as IFK Trelleborg Handboll at times played first class, the soccer team played 16 seasons in the second highest division in its history .

history

IFK Trelleborg was founded in 1910 as the Trelleborg section of the Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna organization . In 1938 the association spun off its departments as independent associations, with the association remaining as an umbrella organization.

Soccer

When the Swedish league pyramid was introduced in the 1928/29 season, IFK Trelleborg was one of the founding members of the eight third division seasons, which are structured according to regional aspects. After the team was briefly relegated to the fourth division, it established itself in the mid-1930s in the front midfield of the third division. In 1937, the club finally prevailed in a duel with Ystads IF, later known especially for its handball team, and rose to the second division for the first time as the leader of Division 3 Sydsvenska .

In the southern season of the second division IFK Trelleborg just barely missed the march through to the Allsvenskan as a promoted team , when behind Malmö BI as second in the table did not reach the promotion round. In the two years, the team slipped, so that in 1940 they occupied a relegation place behind IFK Malmö and Höganäs BK and returned to the third division together with Ängelholms IF . The stay there lasted only one season, as the team prevailed as the relay winner in the promotion round. This time she immediately played against relegation. This could still be avoided in the first year, in 1943 the tied competitor BK Landora prevailed due to the better goal quotient .

As a relegated IFK Trelleborg benefited from the goal quotient and thus escaped falling into fourth division, as the last non-relegation place was occupied tied with the two bottom of the table. First, the club held in the following seasons in the middle of the table, before the team was classified in 1947 victim of a league reform and in the fourth division. In 1951 she returned to the third division and marched directly into the second division with four or eight points ahead of Husqvarna IF and Kalmar AIK, who were placed behind . Again involved in the relegation battle, the club held in the following years regularly in front of the relegation places. 1956 was missing a point on Åtvidabergs FF to stay up and together with local rivals Trelleborgs FF , the club rose again from the third division, from which it was passed down three years later.

First, the IFK Trelleborg footballers established themselves in the front of the table in their fourth division without being able to specifically intervene in the promotion race. In the 1964 season, the team only suffered one season defeat and thus won the relay championship with ease. As a climber, the club again set in the promotion race to the second division and returned there at the end of the 1966 season. After a year in the middle of the table, the club played again for promotion to Allsvenskan. As second in the table behind Landskrona BoIS , one point was missing to advance to the promotion round. Again, the team could not confirm the success and temporarily slipped back into the relegation battle. 1972 again third in the table, the club again occupied a relegation place in the following year and rose from the second division with Blomstermåla IK and Jönköpings Södra IF .

Then IFK Trelleborg played in the no man's land of the third division. Even in third place in the 1979 season and the runner-up in 1981, the club was five points behind season winners Råå IF and Lunds BK, respectively . 1985 again runner-up, the team was again victim of a league reform the following year and rose to fourth division, from which the club relegated to fifth division in the following season. After the immediate resurgence, the team played to return to the third division, which was accomplished in 1991. There the team in the autumn series only missed the march through to the second division in the promotion round. Initially placed in the middle of the table, the club moved back to the promotion round in 1995. Initially successful against Qviding FIF , the team failed in the last round at Motala AIF due to the away goals rule . Several years in the front midfield followed before relegation was due again in 2002, which was followed by a crash into the fifth division.

In 2005 for the third time in the club's history victim of a league reform, the IFK Trelleborg football team returned to fifth division in 2007, where they have been since then.

Handball

At the time of the division of the club into its subdivisions, the handball team of IFK Trelleborg played under-class. In 1947 she took part for the first time in the final round of the Swedish championship, in which the club was allowed to participate in addition to the first division teams as one of the selected second division teams. For many years, the second division side fell under this rule several times.

2006 IFK Trelleborg rose for the first time in the elite series as the highest Swedish division in handball. In the first year table eight, the team then played against relegation. If the club prevailed in the relegation games in 2008, it failed there the following year and has therefore played second class again since 2009.
