history

Rise of the Club

Ljungskile SK was founded in 1926. For a long time the team only played in the lower class, regional area before they made it to the higher class league area in the 1990s.

1990 Ljungskile SK entered the sixth division division 5 Bohusserien , from which they rose as a season winner in the fifth division. Via Division 4 Bohuslän-Dal and Division 3 Nordvästra Götaland , the team made it through to the third-class Division 2 Västra Götaland . Here, too, she dominated the championship and took first place ahead of Stenungsunds IF .

In the second division, the meteoric rise of Ljungskile SK was initially slowed. In their debut season in Division 1 Södra , the team finished seventh. After a fifth place in the following year, the club was runner-up in the southern season in 1996 behind IF Elfsborg . In the subsequent relegation games against Umeå FC , after a 0-1 home defeat in the second leg, they achieved a 3-2 win, so that the club was promoted to the Allsvenskan for the first time.

Establishment as a professional team

Before the beginning of the first division season in 1997 , Ljungskile SK concluded a sponsorship agreement with Panos Emporio , a swimwear manufacturer. The team as Panos Ljungskile SK had no chance in the first division. As the bottom of the table, the club rose directly from Degerfors IF and Västerås SK and then played again in Division 1 Södra .

As fourth in the table, Ljungskile SK qualified at the end of the 1999 season for the newly created Superettan as the second division . In the opening season, the team occupied next to Gunnilse IS and Åtvidabergs FF only one relegation place. As the leader of Division 2 Västra Götaland , she moved into the promotion round, in which after a draw and a loss to Ängelholms FF the direct promotion was missed. Before the 2003 season, the club deleted the part of the name "Panos" from the club name. At the end of the season, the worse goal difference separated from the tied competitor GAIS from the renewed relay victory. In the following season succeeded the relay win and after two wins over Väsby IK, the promotion to the Superettan.

As a promoted Ljungskile SK established itself in the front division and missed in the 2005 season as fourth with two points behind the promotion places just barely the direct march. After a sixth place in the following year, the team returned at the end of the 2007 season as runner-up in the Allsvenskan. The second season at the highest league level in the club's history was as unlucky as the first. Third last, the team had to go into the relegation, in which they failed after two draws due to the away goals rule at IF Brommapojkarna .
