The Superettan 2000 was the first season of the second highest Swedish football league under this name and the 72nd season since the official introduction of such in 1928. It replaced Division 1 , which had previously been held in two seasons . The season started on April 16 and ended on October 29, 2000.

The former national champions Djurgårdens IF and Malmö FF managed to return to the Allsvenskan . The table third Mjällby AIF failed in the relegation to the first division at BK Häcken . Åtvidabergs FF , Ljungskile SK and Gunnilse IS had to relegate directly to the third division.
