The Superettan 2006 was the seventh season of the second highest Swedish football league under this name and the 78th season since the official introduction of such in 1928. The season began on April 14th and ended on October 21st, 2006.

Trelleborgs FF and Örebro SK managed direct promotion to the Allsvenskan , IF Brommapojkarna was able to prevail as third in the table in the relegation games. At the end of the table, Qviding FIF and Umeå FC had to relegate straight to the third division, Assyriska FF and Väsby United missed relegation in relegation.

    The 3rd of the Superettan 2006 played against the 14th of the Allsvenskan 2006 in a play-off round with a return game for relegation . The first leg took place on November 9th and the second leg on November 12th, 2006. The winner qualified for the Allsvenskan 2007 .

    The teams in places 13th and 14th of the Superettan 2006 played against the 2nd of the North / South Relay of Division 1 in a play-off round with a round trip for relegation . The first leg took place on October 25, 2006, the second leg on October 28 (Väsby - IK Sirius) and October 29, 2006. The two winners qualified for the 2007 Superettan .
