Olof Guterstam (born January 4, 1983 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish football player . The striker , who appeared twice for the Swedish national team in 2007 , has played his career in Sweden and Belgium so far. Later he decided to pursue a full-time career outside of football and from 2011 succeeded in the lower-class Swedish league area.

Career

Career start in Sweden and national team debut

Guterstam played in his youth with Enskede IK and Älvsjö AIK . In 2002 he moved to IF Brommapojkarna in the Superettan . In the first year he was still a substitute player, who played 11 of his 14 league games as a substitute, but in his second year he was able to play in the regular formation at the Stockholm club. In the second division season in 2005 , he distinguished himself for the first time as the club's best internal goalscorer when he contributed twelve goals this season to reaching sixth place in the table. In the following season he was even more accurate and led the team with 17 goals this season as top scorer of the 2006 season on the relegation place. He also scored twice in the relegation games against BK Häcken and thus helped the team to their first promotion to the Allsvenskan .

Thanks to his good performance, national coach Lars Lagerbäck called him after the 2006 season in December alongside the other debutants Markus Jonsson , Daniel Mobaeck and Daniel Nannskog for a January tour of the national team to South America. He made his debut on January 14, 2007 in the 2-0 defeat by Venezuela in the national jersey when he came on in the 74th minute for Nannskog. In the 1: 2 defeat against the Ecuadorian national team four days later he was in the starting line-up before he had to make way for Nannskog in the 59th minute. In the subsequent first division season he missed his goal threat. Although he was used in 25 of the 26 first division games, he only scored four goals this season. So he had to relegate directly with the team at the side of Richard Henriksson , Martin Ekström and Thomas Lagerlöf as bottom of the table.

To Belgium and return to Sweden

Guterstam did not follow his club IF Brommapojkarna into the second division. At the end of January 2008 he signed a contract with the Belgian club FC Brussels that was valid until the summer and included a purchase option. In the Pro League he scored his first goal for the new club on his debut on February 9th in the 2: 4 defeat against RSC Anderlecht . Under coach Franky Van Der Elst he was regularly used and played 14 games by the end of the season, in which he scored four goals. Nevertheless, he missed with the club as the bottom of the table - KFC Verbroedering Dender EH on the last non-relegation place had 14 points ahead - the relegation.

After his failure in Belgium, Guterstam returned to Sweden. In mid-June he signed a loan contract with Hammarby IF until the end of the 2008 season , which included an option to a subsequent three-year contract. Under coach Tony Gustavsson he was only one of the supplementary players and was only in two of his 16 season games in the starting lineup. Therefore, the club decided after the end of the season not to take the purchase option.

Guterstam therefore returned to his old club IF Brommapojkarna, who had managed the direct return to the Allsvenskan. In the 2009 season he was one of the club's regulars again and played all 30 games of the season. As the club's best internal goalscorer, he led the team with five goals this season to stay in the table as twelfth in the table, in the following season his three goals were too few for relegation. He then left the club because his contract had expired.

Change to lower class football

At the end of December 2010 Guterstam signed a two-year contract with the newly promoted IK Frej in the third-class Division 1 in order to better reconcile playing football with a professional career after completing his medical studies at the Karolinska Institutet . At his new club he was a regular player and was on the field in 23 of the 26 season games. To reach eighth place in the table, he contributed six goals this season.

In February 2012 Guterstam returned to his youth club Älvsjö AIK, which competed in the fifth-class Division 3.
