Football Club Verbroedering Dender Eendracht Hekelgem is a Belgian football club .

history

The club was created in 2005 from the merger of FC Verbroedering Dender EH and Verbroedering Denderhoutem . The former was itself the merger of FC Denderleeuw, founded in 1952, and FC Eendracht Hekelgem, created in 1963, in 2001 .

Verbroedering Denderhoutem

On March 9, 1943 Verbroedering Denderhoutem was founded in Denderhoutem , which was registered in August of the same year under the number 3900 with the Belgian Football Association . The first successes came in the 1980s, when one commuted between the fourth division and the first regional division. In 1996 Verbroedering Denderhoutem rose to the fourth division, in 1998 the team qualified as leaders for the promotion games to the Derde Class / Division 3 . There they beat Eendracht Hekelgem in the decisive game 2-0 and made it to the top. Denderhoutem was sixth in the table in his first third division season. In the following season Verbroedering Denderhoutem played against relegation, but was able to save in the end with five points ahead of Standaard Wetteren . After midfield places in 2001 and 2002, Verbroedering occupied the relegation place of the third division with 29 points in 2003 and had to relegate to fourth division after a 2: 3 defeat against KSV Bornem . Verbroedering, however, managed to get promoted again with 22 wins and only 2 defeats and in 2005 made it to fourth place in the third division. The club then merged with FC Denderleeuw EH.

FC Denderleeuw

In 1952, the Football Club Denderleeuw was founded in nearby Denderleeuw and joined the association in 1953. FC Denderleeuw reached the third division in 1973, where the club was sixth in the table straight away. In the following season, however, the league was missed as third from bottom. Due to poor results, the club rose in the 1980s to the second regional league, before it went up again in the 1990s and they played third-rate again in the 1993/94 season.

In 1995 the team was runner-up behind RFC Kapellen and thus qualified for the promotion games to the second division, where they failed in the semifinals at KFC Turnhout with 2: 3 after extra time. In the following season, the club reached third place in the table as well as the promotion games. This time the team prevailed and accompanied Royale Union Saint-Gilloise and Olympique Charleroi into the second division. After a seventh place in the table in 1997, FC Denderleeuw qualified a year later as fourth in the table for the promotion games to the First Division , but failed there in second behind KV Kortrijk .

In the 1998/99 season Denderleeuw caused a surprise when RSC Anderlecht was defeated in the eighth final of the cup , but the team failed in the quarter-finals to SC Lokeren . At the end of the season the club was eighth. In the following two years, the team was ninth, before the merger with league rival Eendracht Hekelgem in 2001.

FC Eendracht Hekelgem

In 1963 the FC Eendracht Hekelgem was born , which first joined the Catholic football association and only became a member of the official Belgian association in 1965. Like the other two clubs, Eendracht Hekelgem only played under-class in amateur leagues in the early years.

In 1991 Eendracht Hekelgem was promoted to the fourth division for the first time. In 1997, Eendracht Hekelgem managed to qualify for the promotion to the third division as runner-up behind FC Schoten , but failed due to VO Aarschot on penalties . A year later, the club finished second again and lost 2-0 to Verbroedering Denderhoutem. In the subsequent game for the third promotion place, however, Eendracht outclassed Stade Löwen 6-1 and followed the later merger partner.

Eendracht Hekelgem was able to qualify as third in the table in 1999 for the promotion games to the second division, where the decisive game was lost 3-0 against KMSK Deinze , but due to the withdrawal of KFC Herentals, the march into the second division was made perfect. After a twelfth place in the first year, the Eendracht finished the 2000/01 season as the penultimate on a relegation place. During the summer break, however, the club merged with FC Denderleeuw.

FC Denderleeuw EH

During the summer break of 2001, FC Denderleeuw and Eendracht Hekelgem merged to form FC Denderleeuw EH. The merged club was 13th in the second division in its first season. In the following season Denderleeuw just missed the promotion games just behind SV Zulte-Waregem . With only three wins, Denderleeuw followed the example of Verbroedering in 2004, who had been relegated the previous year, and was relegated from bottom of the table in the third division. As ninth in the table, the club was able to qualify for the promotion games. There the team failed in the semifinals due to Oud-Heverlee Löwen . During the summer break, Verbroedering and FC Denderleeuw EH announced their merger, and they played under the registration number of the oldest club, Verbroedering Denderhoutem.

Common story

The newly merged club became champions of the third division under the name FC Verbroedering Dender Eendracht Hekelgem and thus rose directly to the second division before being penultimate in the third division in 2011/12.
