The Koninklijke Sport Vereniging Roeselare is a Belgian football club from the West Flemish town of Roeselare , that of the 2010/11 season to the 2019/20 season in the Division 1B played.

history

In 1902, the first predecessor club was founded under the name Union Sportif Roeselare , but it was dissolved again in 1909 due to financial problems. A year later, two clubs were formed. The Catholics played at the Sportvereniging Roeselare , the Protestants formed FC Roeselare . After the First World War interrupted gaming operations, SK Roeselare was re-established in 1921 . However, the club were denied major successes and only after the merger in 1999 with local rivals KFC Roeselare of KSV Roeselare was the success set. In 2005 the promotion to the Jupiler League succeeded for the first time , in which one could stay for several years. Although Roeselare was only twelfth in 2006, they qualified for the 2006/07 UEFA Cup , as the club was one of the three teams drawn in the UEFA Fair Play classification . However, they failed in the second qualifying round to Ethnikos Achnas from Cyprus .

On October 29, 2008 Dennis van Wijk was coach of KSV Roeselare for the second time. At the end of the season they reached 16th place in the league with three points ahead of the relegated AFC Tubize , which meant that the club had to play in relegation games to stay up. Roeselare prevailed and remained in the top Belgian league. In the following season the situation did not improve and van Wijk led his team again only in the relegation games. It was lucky that league rival Excelsior Mouscron was given a suspension by the Belgian Football Association, which meant that their games were canceled and they were the only direct relegated team. Roeselare could not use this chance again and finally got relegated. In the summer of 2010 van Wijk was replaced by Nico Vanderdonck as head coach. For the 2011/12 season, the former Ukrainian national player Sergiy Serebrennikov took over as player-coach.

Yves Olivier has been chairman of the association since October 2013 .

In the 2018/19 season, Roeselare finished in 5th place in the overall table and therefore had to participate in the relegation round. On January 12, 2019, Juan Gutiérrez Moreno was signed with a contract until the end of the season as the new coach .

In the relegation round, the club reached the end of the 2nd place and remained in Division 1B. When his contract expired, Moreno left the club. The search for a coach dragged on, so that Arnar Grétarsson could only be signed with a contract term of one year on July 31, 2019, just before the start of the new season . After the club finished last in the 2019/20 season overall table after 16 of 28 match days, he parted ways with Grétarsson.

The following day Christophe Gamel was hired as a coach. The club called him an interim coach, although Gamel had not previously worked for Roeselare.

Bankruptcy proceedings in 2019

On September 10, 2019, the association was declared bankrupt by the Commercial Court for the Province of West Flanders in Kortrijk . The association stated that it contradicted this decision because it had meanwhile settled the corresponding outstanding claims. Initially, the curateur (insolvency administrator) prohibited the association from any activity. An attempt by Pro League , the association of clubs in Division 1A and 1B, to postpone the championship game against Royal Excelsior Virton scheduled for September 15, 2019 , was rejected by Virton, as the Virton coach attended a UEFA- Participates in the course. So at least this game is lost for Roeselare without a fight. The association's objection was granted on September 19 and the bankruptcy proceedings were lifted.

License refusal for the 2020/21 season

The 2019/20 season ended Roeselare in 7th place in the overall table and should have played the relegation games against Sporting Lokeren . As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic , these games were initially postponed and became obsolete due to the bankruptcy of Lokeren, which was declared on April 20, 2020.

However, the license commission of the Belgian Football Association refused Roeselare the license for the 2020/21 season in mid-March 2020. After the license was also rejected in the appeal process, the club appealed to the Belgian arbitration court for sport. Also refused to grant the license on May 11, 2020. However, Roeselare is only relegated to the 1st Division Amateurs and starts there in the 2020/21 season with a three point deduction. The license commission had planned a downgrade by two divisions.
