FK Vardar Skopje (officially: Fudbalski Klub Vardar Skopje) is a North Macedonian football club from the capital Skopje . The club was created in 1947 through a merger of the local football clubs FK Pobeda and FK Makedonija . Vardar Skopje is currently the record champion in North Macedonia with ten championships and five cup wins. The club colors are red and black.
history
The greatest successes in the club's history were winning the Yugoslav Cup in 1961 and the Yugoslav championship title in the 1986/87 season. This season, ten clubs started with a deduction of six points due to match-fixing in the previous season. Vardar was not affected and won the championship. The runner-up Partizan Belgrade appealed to the association and, with political support, obtained the cancellation of the point deduction. However, UEFA did not recognize the politically motivated judgment , so that Vardar took up the Yugoslav championship in the European Cup.
In recent history, winning the Macedonian Championship in 1993, 1994, 1995, 2002, 2003, 2012, 2013, 2015 and the Macedonian Cup in 1993, 1995, 1998, 1999 and 2007 are among the greatest successes. In the first football season in independent Macedonia 1992/93 Vardar Skopje was Macedonian champion without losing a game with 27 wins and 7 draws.
The club's home games take place in the Toše Proeski Arena . This seats 33,460 spectators.
The club is by far the best-known and most popular football club in the country, which is also due to the fact that Vardar was the only North Macedonian representative in the 1st division of the former Yugoslavia and was therefore regarded as a kind of North Macedonian national team.
There is a friendship with the fans of the FK Teteks Tetovo and the ultras of FC Schalke 04 .
