F91 Dudelange ( Luxembourgish F91 Diddeleng or French F91 Dudelange ) is a Luxembourg football club from the city of Dudelange . The club colors are red and yellow. The home stadium is the Jos Nosbaum Stadium with a capacity of 4650 seats. The club was founded in 1991 when the associations Alliance Dudelange , CS le Stade Dudelange and US Dudelange merged. Between 2000 and 2019, the club won 15 out of 20 Luxembourg championships.

Predecessor clubs

CS Le Stade Dudelange

The CS Le Stade Dudelange ( French Stade Dudelange ) was founded in 1908 under the name Gallia Dudelange , 1912 changed its name to Sparta Dudelange before 1913 the name CS Le Stade Dudelange was adopted. After the club withdrew from the first-class 1st division of Luxembourg in the season 1913/14 before the season , they won the following season against the US Dudelange and took part in the play-offs, in which the club was eliminated by Jeunesse Esch . In 1915/16 Stade Dudelange was relegated from the 1st Division, and they were promoted again in the 1919/20 season , when the club was runner-up behind CS Fola Esch . In the seasons 1922/23 and 1924/25 , the runner-up title could be won again, but after the following season Stade had to relegate again to the second division. With the rise and simultaneous runner-up title in 1927/28 , the club again attracted attention. Stade Dudelange also reached the final of the Luxembourg Football Cup during this game , which was lost after a 2: 5 in the second replay against Spora Luxembourg . After this successful season, the coming season ended on a relegation zone. At the beginning of the 1930s, Stade Dudelange temporarily developed into an elevator team . The ascents in 1930 and 1932 were opposed by direct relegation. At the end of the 1930s a successful football era began for Dudelange. After promotion to the 1936/37 season , Stade Dudelange succeeded in winning the Luxembourg Football Cup for the first time in 1938 with a 1-0 win over The National Schifflingen . In the honor division 1938/39 , the club was three points ahead of local competitor US Dudelange for the first time Luxembourg football champions. This title could be defended in 1939/40 , in the Luxembourg Football Cup, however, the club lost the finals in 1939 (1: 2 against US Dudelange) and 1940 (2: 6 against Spora Luxemburg).

During the Second World War and the occupation of Luxembourg in 1940, gaming operations were suspended for the time being. From 1941, the German Football Department incorporated the Luxembourg football clubs into the newly founded Gauliga Moselland and gave them German names. From then on, Stade Dudelange took on the role of FV Stadt Dudelange . The change did not affect the skill level for the time being. The Gauliga Moselland 1941/42 was won after two victories in the final against Eintracht Bad Kreuznach , so that the club was allowed to participate in the German soccer championship for the first time . In the qualifying round Dudelange had to play against the series champions FC Schalke 04 , Dudelange lost 2-0 in view of the strength of the Schalke team and was eliminated. City of Dudelange stayed in the Gauliga Moselland until the end, but could no longer reach the final of the Gauliga.

After the liberation of Luxembourg, the national division was played again in 1944/45 , and the club, renamed Stade Dudelange , became Luxembourg football champions for the third time. The championship title was successfully defended in 1945/46 , 1946/47 and 1947/48 , and the cup win in 1948 and 1949 and the championship again in 1949/50 . In the 1950s, the dominance of the Dudelange clubs decreased somewhat. 1954/55 and 1956/57 was Stade Dudelange for the eighth or ninth time football champion. In 1956 they achieved their fourth and final cup victory. Due to the championship success in 1957, the team qualified for the European Cup of National Champions 1957/58 , both games in the preliminary round against Red Star Belgrade were lost. After the other seasons were mostly completed in the middle of the table, the club succeeded in 1964/65 winning the Luxembourg soccer championship for the last time. In the subsequent preliminary round of the 1965/66 European Cup , Stade Dudelange lost to Benfica Lisbon with 0: 8 and 0:10. In the years to come, the club developed into a classic elevator team. After relegation from the National Division in 1967/68 , the club achieved another five promotions and five relegations.

US Dudelange

The US Dudelange ( French US Dudelange ) was created in 1912 from a merger of Minerva Dudelange and Jeunesse de la Frontière in 1908 Dudelange . Although the club did not achieve the success of local competitor Stade Dudelange , he played in the top football league in Luxembourg for a few years. The ascents in the seasons 1924/25 , 1929/30 and 1931/32 were followed by immediate relegation. It was not until the 1933/34 season that US Dudelange was able to hold out in the top division for a long time. The 1938/39 season was the most successful in the club's history. In the honor division, the club achieved the runner-up title behind Stade Dudelange , but US Dudelange won the Luxembourg Football Cup this season with a 2-1 victory in the final over local rivals. In 1939/40 the club was again runner-up. In the Gauliga Moselland played during the occupation of Luxembourg , the club entered as SV Dudelange and played all three seasons in the top division. After the liberation of Luxembourg and the restoration of the Luxembourg football league, US Dudelange reached the runner-up title twice in 1945/46 and 1946/47 . After relegation in 1951 , the season 1953/54 was promoted and immediately relegated. In 1958, the club reached the final of the Luxembourg Football Cup again, but it was lost 2-1 to Red Boys Differdange . After advancing to the National Division in 1961/62 , he was relegated to the second division again in 1969/70 . Up until the merger to form the F91 Dudelange, it was no longer possible to climb to the top class .

CS Alliance Dudelange

The CS Alliance Dudelange was created in 1916 when Etoile Rouge Dudelange and Etoile Bleue Dudelange merged. During the annexation of Luxembourg by the German Reich, the association was called FV Rot-Schwarz Dudelange . Unlike the two local competitors, Alliance Dudelange did not make the leap into first class before the Second World War . The first promotion to the first-class honor division succeeded in the 1952/53 season , but the club had to accept the immediate relegation. For the 1954/55 season , the club again achieved promotion. In 1961 and 1962, Alliance Dudelange won the Luxembourg Football Cup after victories over the RFC Union Luxembourg and thus qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup . In 1961/62 the club was eliminated against SC Motor Jena , but reached a 2-2 draw in the second leg. Also in the 1962-63 European Cup Winners' Cup succeeded Aliance Düdelingen a draw against 1909 Odense B , a 1: 8 defeat in the second leg but retired the club in the first round. In the following decades the club commuted between the first and second football league. With relegation in the 1971/72 season, no club from Dudelange played in the top soccer league of Luxembourg for the first time in 58 years. The last promotion to the first division in 1989/90 was followed by immediate relegation.

Sports development after the merger

Simplified scheme for the creation of the F91 Dudelange

After all three Dudelange football clubs had only played sporadically in the first class at the end of the 1980s, the three clubs decided to merge into F91 Dudelange . The newly founded association took the starting place of Alliance Dudelange in the second-class honorary doctorate . For the 1992/93 season , the club managed to return to the first division. In 1993 and 1994, the club reached the finals of the Luxembourg Football Cup twice, both games were lost to FC Avenir Beggen . Since Beggen became soccer champion in these seasons, Dudelange was allowed to take part in the European Cup Winners' Cup in both seasons . The club has dominated nationally since the turn of the millennium and has won thirteen championships. In the 2008/09 season Dudelange was two game days before the end of the season by a 1-0 win at Swift Hesperingen champions. This was the fifth championship in a row.

A historic success in Luxembourg football history was achieved in the 2005/06 Champions League season : F91 Dudelange was the first club from Luxembourg to reach the second qualifying round after defeating HŠK Zrinjski Mostar . After a 0-1 defeat at home, it was 0-0 in the second leg in Bosnia even after the 90th minute, which would have meant Düdelingen's elimination. In stoppage time, the goal was 1-0. In the following extra time, the Bosnian champions were defeated 4-0 and F91 Dudelange was in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. However, after two defeats (1: 6 and 2: 3) against the Austrian champions SK Rapid Wien, it was the end of the line.

In the 2011/12 season, the F91 survived the first qualifying round for the Champions League after two 2-0 wins against Andorran champions FC Santa Coloma . In the second qualifying round there was a 2-0 and a 3-1 defeat against the Slovenian champions NK Maribor .

On July 17, 2012, F91 Dudelange won the first leg of the second qualifying round for the 2012/13 Champions League 1-0 against the Austrian after the only double-digit victory of a Luxembourg team (two-legged game added) against SP Tre Penne from San Marino Champions and cup winners FC Red Bull Salzburg , where they reached the third qualifying round of the Champions League for the first time after a 3: 4 defeat in the second leg due to the away goals rule , in which they were eliminated against NK Maribor . The subsequent chance to secure a place in the group as part of the Europa League playoff against Hapoel Tel Aviv was not used after a 1: 3 home and a 0: 4 away defeat. For this success, F91 Dudelange was voted Luxembourg team of the year in 2012. In 2014 , 2016 and 2017 the club was again Luxembourg champion, in 2016 and 2017 also cup winners; in the subsequent qualifying rounds for the Champions League they failed consistently. In the 2017/18 season , F91 Dudelange became champions for the third time in a row. In the following first qualifying round for the UEFA Champions League , Dudelange was eliminated by Videoton FC and then in the second qualifying round for the UEFA Europa League against the Kosovar representative KF Drita , in the third qualifying round against the Polish club Legia Warsaw and in the play-offs against the Romanian club CFR Cluj . This made F91 Dudelange the first Luxembourg club to enter the group stage of a UEFA competition. There the club met Betis Sevilla , AC Milan and Olympiacos Piraeus ; F91 Dudelange was eliminated from the bottom of the group.

In 2019 the F91 won the championship again. In the first qualifying round for the UEFA Champions League, however, they were defeated by Valletta FC . However, the F91 then sat down in the second qualifying round for the UEFA Europa League against the Macedonian champions KF Shkëndija , in the third qualifying round against the Estonian champions FC Nõmme Kalju and in the play-offs against the Armenian champions FC Ararat-Armenia , on penalties, by. Thus, the F91 Dudelange made it into the group stage of a UEFA competition for the second time in a row. There the club meets FC Sevilla , APOEL Nicosia and FK Qarabag . In the very first game, a 4: 3 away win in Nicosia was another historic success in club and national football history. In the last group game against Qarabaq, the team narrowly missed their second win.
