The 2005/06 National Division was the 92nd season of Luxembourg's highest football league .

F91 Dudelange was able to successfully defend the title and won the fifth championship since the club was founded.

Championship format

The twelve teams first played a basic round consisting of a simple round trip. Then the four best teams competed against each other in the master playoff. The remaining eight teams were divided into two groups, and played for relegation. The points from the basic round were taken.

Each of these three groups was played again in a round trip. The last two of the relegation groups competed in relegation games against the third and fourth placed team of the honorary doctorate . Since the league was increased to 14 teams for the next season , no team had to be relegated directly.

    Relegation playoff group 2

    Since the points were taken from the basic round, only Victoria Rosport and FC Avenir Beggen came into question as theoretical relegation participants. Due to the 18 points deficit and the much worse goal difference to Victoria Rosport, Avenir Beggen was practically already established as the bottom of the group before the six playoff games.
