Luxembourg Football Cup
The Luxembourg Football Cup ( French Coupe de Luxembourg ) is the national cup competition for club teams of the Luxembourg football association FLF ( Fédération Luxembourgeoise de Football ). This competition has been played since the 1921/22 season. The pairings are drawn before each round. The final has been held in the Josy Barthel Stadium (8,000 seats) in the capital Luxembourg since 1994 .
Current mode
Up to and including the 2000/2001 season, the individual cup rounds were drawn independently of the various leagues. So theoretically all clubs in the country could meet. In the 2001/2002 season, the cup rounds were changed to the following system:
- 1st round: clubs of the 2nd / 3rd division
- 2nd round: clubs of the 2nd division + winner 1st round
- 3rd round: clubs of the 1st division + winners 2nd round
- 4th round: Associations of honorary doctorates + winners 3rd round
- 5th round: clubs of the national division + winner 4th round
- Round of 16: Winner 5th round
The cup mode was changed again for the 2016/2017 season. The teams of the BGL Ligue and the honorary doctorate already intervene in the second round . However, the 28 teams from the top two leagues cannot meet each other in this round. In addition, from now on the lower class club always automatically has home rights until the final.
