Maltese Football Cup
The Maltese Football Cup is known as the FA Trophy . The official name is currently U * Bet FA Trophy after the Maltese lottery company U * Bet . From 1995 to 2002 the cup competition was called the Rothmans Trophy . The trophy was a gift from the English football association The Football Association in 1933. It came about because in May 1933 Maltese football fans traveled to Rome for the English national team's first international match against Italy to support the English team. As a thank you, the association donated a silver cup. Based on the English FA Cup , the trophy was called the FA Trophy.
The record winners are the Sliema Wanderers with 21 trophies. The current title holder (2019) is FC Balzan .
