Israeli soccer cup
The Israeli Football Cup ( Hebrew גביע המדינה, Gvia HaMedina ), also known as the State Cup of Israel , is the country's second most important football competition after the championship . The official competition can look back on a tradition dating back to 1928. From 1922 to 1948 the competition was called the Palestine Cup . After the independence of Israel it got its current name. All clubs that take part in league games are eligible to participate. The competition is held in the simple cup mode without a second leg.
Maccabi Tel Aviv is a record winner with 23 cup wins. The cup winner from 2003 Hapoel Ramat Gan was so far the only lower class club that could win the Israeli State Cup.
