The FC Bnei Sakhnin ( Hebrew איחוד בני סכנין, Arabic اتحاد أبناء سخنين, DMG Ittiḥād Abnāʾ Saḫnīn  'United Sons of Sachnin') is an Israeli football club in Sachnin . He has been back in Israel's top division , the Ligat ha'Al , since 2007 . The club colors are red and white.

history

The club was founded in 1996 as a merger of the two clubs from the city of Sachnin Hapoel and Maccabi . The association took the name Ichud ( Arabic   Ittihad, German united). Although the club has deleted the two names Hapoel and Maccabi from the club name, the club is run as Hapoel Bnei Sachnin at UEFA .

In 2003, the club made it to the top division of the country for the first time with second place in the second Israeli division. Bnei Sachnin was together with Maccabi Ahi Nazareth the third Arab club in the country (after Hapoel Taibe 1995/96), which made it to the top division, the Ligat ha'Al . After the rise, the club was able to hold in the league until 2006. During this time, the greatest success in the club's history fell, winning the Israeli Cup in 2004. A year after relegation, the club rose again. With 4th place in the 2007/08 season, Bnei Sachnin qualified for the 2nd round in the UEFA Intertoto Cup .

Fans

Most of the club's fans are Arab Israelis, who are in a minority compared to the other clubs in the country. The club also has some Jewish fans from the neighboring kibbutz of Sachnin. The club also has many fans from abroad such as Jordan , Qatar and the United Arab Emirates .

Sponsors

The main sponsor of the association is the Israeli wireless operator Cellcom. In addition, the Israeli billionaire Arcadi Gaydamak invested 400,000 US dollars in the association in the hope of promoting peace for the Israeli citizens. The club's 5,000-seat stadium, the Doha Stadium , was sponsored by Hamad bin Chalifa Al Thani , the Emir of the Emirates of Qatar , and therefore named accordingly.
