history

The association was founded in 1949, one year after the State of Israel. By rising to the first division in 1965, he was first known nationwide. After the 1969 season, the club rose again, but rose again the following year.

The mid-1970s became the golden era of the club's history. In 1975 the club won its first Israeli championship and was able to defend the title in the following season. The 1977 season ended Hapoel but only one place above the relegation ranks.

In the early 1980s there was another short streak of luck: In 1983, Hapoel finished third and reached the final in the Israeli State Cup , but lost to Hapoel Bnei Lod 3-2 on penalties. Then the club was again only just able to save itself from relegation. In 1988, 1994 and 1995 Hapoel was third in the league and twice won the UEFA Cup . In the first attempt, Hapoel failed with 1: 3 and 1: 2 to Aris Thessaloniki in the qualification. In the second attempt in 1995/96, Hapoel reached the first round with two wins against KS Dinamo Tirana . There the club lost 5-0 and 7-0 against FC Barcelona .

In 1997, Hapoel finished second at the end of the season and also won the cup with a 1-0 final win over Maccabi Tel Aviv . In qualifying for the European Cup Winners' Cup , Hapoel VMFD Žalgiris beat Vilnius 2-1 and 0-0. In the first round, however, there were two defeats against Roda JC Kerkrade with 1: 4 and 0:10 . In the same year the club was relegated.

In the 2001/02 season, the club played again in the first division. The next season brought a novelty in Israeli football: for the first time, Hapoel Be'er Scheva, a first division team, was defeated by a second division team in the cup final against Hapoel Ramat Gan . The renewed relegation in 2005 resulted in the first derbies with Maccabi Be'er Scheva in the next season .

At the end of the 2015/16 season, the club was able to win the Israeli championship for the third time. The title was defended in the following season 2016/17.

Hapoel Be'er Scheva won the final of the 2019/20 cup competition 2-0 against Maccabi Petach Tikwa .
