The Turner Stadium ( Hebrew אצטדיון טרנר, official name: Yaakov Turner Toto Stadium Be'er Sheva , Hebrew אצטדיון טוטו באר שבע ע"ש יעקב טרנר) is a football stadium in the Israeli city of Beersheba . The venue with 16,126 seats on the northern outskirts is named after the former mayor of the city, Jaakov Turner (1998–2008). The football club Hapoel Be'er Scheva , champion 2016 , has played its home games in the football arena since 2015.
history
The old stadium of Hapoel Be'er Scheva, the Arthur Vasermil Stadium in the city , has been the club's venue since 1959. Initially, a new building with 32,000 seats was to be built, but this plan was rejected in view of the high costs. The architectural office GAB Architects (Goldschmidt, Arditty and Ben Nayim) from Jerusalem designed a stadium for the new building that is visually reminiscent of British football arenas. The design with around 16,000 seats is inspired by the GelreDome in Arnhem, the Netherlands . Four tiers located close to the playing field, which are separated from each other. In the stadium corner in the northwest and southeast were LED - video walls with 60 m 2 installed screen surface. The rear walls or facades of the grandstands have an open structure, which is intended to promote ventilation of the pitch. The budget for the construction project was 50 million US dollars . The main stand in the west houses the most important facilities such as u. a. four changing rooms, doping test room, rooms for referees and coaches, the honor box, six luxury boxes , a restaurant, the press box and the conference room. The UltraSouth fan group has its place on the south stand . There are 1,600 places available for guests on the opposite side in the north.
Work on the football stadium officially began in July 2011, but the foundations were not poured until the end of 2012 . The work did not make any visible progress until mid-2013. Two years later, the Turner Stadium was about to be completed. The most recent work included the laying of the turf, the interior work and the seating of the stadium. After resistance from the Hapoel fans, seats in the club color red were installed on the stands. Most of the plastic seats were delivered from Germany. It is the folding seat model that is also installed in the Munich Allianz Arena . Eight stalls offer food and drinks for visitors. A total of 2,100 parking spaces are available on three different parking spaces on the stadium grounds. Hundreds of toilets for men, women and wheelchair users are distributed throughout the stadium. There are also dedicated parking spaces and entrances for wheelchair users. There are 77 spaces for wheelchair users and their companions in the stands.
The Turner Stadium is located in a sports complex, which also includes the Conch Arena , a multi-purpose hall with 3,000 seats in which the basketball and handball teams from Hapoel play their games. The municipal stadium was approved by the State Toto company financed about one-third, so the venue carries the official name of the additive Toto . The facility meets the requirements of both UEFA and FIFA for international matches. So is z. B. a video surveillance system with a control room and surveillance cameras inside and outside. The first home game of the 2015/16 season on August 30, 2015 against Maccabi Tel Aviv (0: 1) had to be played in the Teddy Kollek Stadium in Jerusalem because the stadium was not yet ready for use. The opening of the soccer arena took place on September 21, 2015. On the fourth matchday of the season, Hapoel met Maccabi Haifa's team for the first game at the Turner Stadium . The game ended in a goalless draw. Maccabi's Taleb Tawatha was sent off in the second minute. The home team could not use this advantage.
