The Maccabi Petach Tikwa FC ( Hebrew מכבי פתח תקווה) is an Israeli football club in Petach Tikwa . He plays in the top division of Israel , the Ligat ha'Al . The club colors are blue and white.

The club coat of arms contains the Star of David in the execution of the Maccabi movement . The term Maccabi is derived from the name of a priestly family, the Maccabees , whose members are viewed as freedom fighters.

General

The club was founded in 1912 by Jewish students who studied in what was then the capital of the Ottoman Empire, Constantinople , making the club the second oldest Israeli soccer club after Maccabi Tel Aviv . In its club history, the club has won the Israeli Cup twice in 1935 and 1952 , but never the Israeli championship. In 1995, 2000 and 2004 the team won the Israeli League Cup . The club's greatest success was in the 2005/06 UEFA Cup season , when Maccabi moved into the group stage, but was eliminated there after four defeats. After the 2011/12 season they were relegated to the second-rate Leumit league .
