The Maccabi World Union (German Makkabi World Union; MWU) is an international Jewish sports association . Around 400,000 members from 65 countries are organized in it. The association's headquarters are in the city of Ramat Gan near Tel Aviv ( Israel ). President is Jeanne Futeran . The biggest hosted by the Maccabi World Union sporting event is taking place every four years in Israel and similar to the Olympic Games designed Maccabean Games ( Maccabiah ).

The association was founded in 1921 at the 12th Zionist Congress in Karlsbad , the first president was the German Heinrich Kuhn. It was initially based in Vienna , in 1926 he moved to Brno and in 1929 to Berlin . In 1929 the Maccabi World Union already had 100,000 members in 22 regions. In 1935 the headquarters had to be relocated to London and in 1946 the association moved to what was then Palestine .
