The Liga Le'umit ( Hebrew ליגה לאומית) is the second highest division in Israeli football.

The Le'umit League is currently played with 16 teams. After the end of the regular season, in which a double round takes place between all teams, two groups are formed: the first group consists of the eight best placed teams in the round, the second of the remaining eight teams. In both groups, the results from the 30 games of the preliminary round are broadcast and a single round is played out between the eight clubs. Better placed teams get one more home game than the others.

While the two promoted teams to the Ligat ha'Al are determined in the promotion round of the best eight teams , there are two direct relegated teams from the relegation round to the third division Alef , as well as a relegation place against the best runners-up from the two groups in the third division.

Promotion regulation

Since the 2012/13 season, the Israeli championship in the Ligat ha'Al has been played with 14 instead of the previous 16 clubs. To this end, only one team from the Le'umit League rose to the end of the 2011/12 season. From now on, two clubs will be promoted directly and replaced by the last two clubs of the Ligat ha'Al.
