The Divizia A is the second highest division in Moldovan football . It is operated by the Moldovan Football Association.

history

In the 1997/1998 season, Sheriff Tiraspol , who later became the record champion of the Divizia Națională , rose as a master directly. Later, the Sheriff's reserve was also often a master, but was never able to advance due to the regulations. As a result, the club is also record champions with the reserve and was last able to win the championship in the 2016/2017 season. With the following season, preparations were made for a season over the entire year. That's why they only played there for half a season. The 2018 season was then the first season over an entire year.

The number of teams in the second division varies. In the 1995/96 season there were still 22 clubs represented in the table. A season later there were only 16 clubs left, as two clubs had canceled their games after the winter break, the season ended with 14 teams. The same number of teams played in the following season. In the following seasons the number of participants fluctuated between 14 and 16 clubs.
