The Birinci Divizionu is the second highest football league in Azerbaijan . It was founded in 1992 after the collapse of the Soviet Union .

history

The league started after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1992 as the second highest division after the Premyer Liqası . It initially took place in two regional groups until the 1993/94 season. The league has been played on a single track since the 1994/95 season.

The league consists of thirteen teams in the 2019/20 season, which determine a promoted to the Premyer Liqası . The league is hosted by AFFA , the Azerbaijani Football Association.
