Premyer Liqası is the name of the highest football league in Azerbaijan . It was founded in 1992 after the collapse of the Soviet Union .
The number of participating teams has often changed. In the 2017/18 season , the league has eight teams playing the championship title. Each team plays four times against each other team, twice at home and twice away.
The league is hosted by AFFA, the Azerbaijani Football Association. The record champion is Neftçi Baku PFK with eight titles .
