FK Baku ( Azerbaijani Bakı Futbol Klubu ) is a football club from Baku , the capital of Azerbaijan . Legally, the club is a limited liability company under Azerbaijani law owned by the Baghlan Group. The company is also the main sponsor of the club.

history

The association was created in 1997 from the merger of Chinar Polis Akademiyasi and Gertal-95 and was initially called Polis Akademiyasi Baki . In the same year it was changed to Dinamo Baki FK . In 2005, now as Baki FK, the national cup was won. The following year the team failed in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Cup to MŠK Žilina , but won the Azerbaijani championship.

In 2006 and 2009 the Azerbaijani championship was won. In the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League , Baku defeated Ekranas Panevėžys from Lithuania in the second qualifying round and became the first Azerbaijani team to reach the third qualifying round. There Baku lost to the Bulgarian representative Levski Sofia . In 2010, the team took part in the CIS Cup , where they failed in the preliminary round after a win against Vakhsh Qurghonteppa from Tajikistan, a draw against HJK Helsinki from Finland and a defeat against FK Aqtöbe from Kazakhstan.

Stadion

The home games of the club, which was founded in 1997, were initially played in the Tofiq Bəhramov Stadium . Since 2010 the club has its own sports and training camp (the largest in the country) with 6 stadiums, which are located in the 9th kilometer of the Sumgaiter Autobahn.
