history

FC Argeş Piteşti was founded in 1953 at the instigation of the Romanian Ministry of the Interior as Dinamo Piteşti . The club's rise began when the team from Dinamo-Miliție Bucharest was relocated to Piteşti in 1959 . In season 1960-61, the rise in the managed Divizia A . After the immediate relegation in the 1962/63 season , the immediate resurgence and in the 1964/65 season with reaching the Romanian cup final against Știința Cluj, the first success. In the following season, Dinamo reached 4th place.

In 1968 Dinamo changed its name to FC Argeş Piteşti , which still exists today. In the same year Argeș was runner-up behind Steaua Bucharest . After a few years in the lower midfield, Argeș became Romanian football champions for the first time in the 1971/72 season and was able to reach the round of 16 in the European Cup in the following season , in which Argeș was the first (and so far only) Romanian club to beat Real Madrid , but still retired.

In the 1970s, Argeș was initially able to maintain contact with the top, but fell back into midfield in the mid-1970s. The team celebrated their last major successes in the 1977/78 season by winning the runner-up behind Steaua Bucharest (tied on points) and the subsequent second championship title in the 1978/79 season . In the European Cup , Argeș reached the round of 16 again after beating AEK Athens , but had to give up twice to the eventual winner Nottingham Forest there.

Until the mid-1980s, Argeș was always able to place in the front field, but without being able to build on previous successes. In the 1987/88 season began the fight against relegation, which could not be avoided in the 1991/92 season . After two years in Divizia B succeeded in 1994 the promotion and in the 1997/98 season with a third place for the last time the qualification for the UEFA Cup , in which the club was able to participate five times. After a few years in the front midfield and a few years in the relegation battle, Argeș finally had to go to League II at the end of the 2006/07 season . The coach was the previous player Ionu wurde Badea and with him succeeded in direct promotion in the 2007/2008 season. In April 2009 it was announced that club president and patron Cornel Penescu had bribed several referees during the season. In June 2009, therefore, the forced relegation of the club to Liga II was decided by the Liga Profesionistă de Fotbal , the subsequent appeal was rejected on July 23, 2009.

After the end of the second division round in 2009/10 coach Badea left the club for financial reasons to coach the first division Internațional Curtea de Argeş , and was replaced on January 7, 2010 by Cristian Negru , the previous coach of the second team. On June 30, 2010 Ion Vlădoiu was appointed to succeed Cristian Negru after the club missed promotion to League 1 . Due to a lack of financial support, Vlădoiu canceled his contract on July 12, 2010. On July 13, 2010, Mihai Zamfir replaced him as coach, and on July 29, 2010, he resigned due to poor training conditions. On July 30, 2010, Iordan Eftimie was finally appointed as the new coach. After a disappointing season in which the club narrowly escaped relegation to League III , Iordan Eftimie was dismissed on June 9, 2011 and replaced by the previous goalkeeping coach Viorel Dumitrescu .
