Paul Codrea (born April 4, 1981 in Timișoara ) is a former Romanian football player . The midfielder played a total of 180 games in the Romanian Liga 1 and the Italian Serie A . As a national player, he took part in the 2008 European Football Championship .

Career

society

Codrea started playing football in his hometown with the Banatul club . With good performances he played himself on the notes of talent scouts and a little later he moved to the youth department of Dinamo Bucharest . From the 1996/97 season he was in the professional squad of the Romanian top club. However, he only played two games and the Dinamo officials decided to loan him for the following season to the second division club FCU Politehnica Timișoara . Two seasons later, the change took place back in the Diviza A to FC Argeş Piteşti . There the Romanian was also under contract for two years. Neither Timişoara nor Piteşti was Codrea set and was mostly a supplementary player, but was able to flash his talent from time to time. It wasn't until he ventured abroad in the summer of 2001 that he got more match practice. His first club in Italy was Genoa in Serie B in 1893 . In the first season he became a regular player. Other Italian clubs quickly noticed him, so that he moved to US Palermo in the winter of 2003 . In the first year the club narrowly missed promotion to the Serie A . But a year later this was successful on the second attempt. It was not easy for Paul Codrea with the Rosaneri and could not really assert himself. He was under contract there for three years, but was loaned out twice. At Perugia Calcio and Torino Calcio he came on season, but could rarely offer himself for the first team after returning to Palermo. Codrea has been under contract with AC Siena since summer 2006 . After 22 games and two goals in the first season, he developed into a top performer. Returned to Romania in summer 2012 and joined Rapid Bucharest . During the winter break he returned to his hometown and joined the fourth division ASU Poli Timișoara . After the end of the season, he ended his active career.

National team

In 2000 Paul Cordea made his debut in the dress of the Romanian national team . Since then he has been an irregular member of the selection board for his country.

For the European Football Championship in Switzerland and Austria in 2008 , he was appointed to Romania's squad by coach Victor Pițurcă . He completed all three preliminary round matches. However, the Romanian team was eliminated after the preliminary round. Already on March 25, 2008, before the tournament, Cordea was honored with the "Meritul Sportiv", an award for athletes, for his achievements in the European Championship qualification, as well as for reaching the finals by Romanian President Traian Băsescu .
