Mihai Zamfir (born January 22, 1955 in Moşoaia , Argeş County ) is a former Romanian football player . He denied 365 games in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A .

Career as a player

Zamfir began his career at his hometown club FC Argeş Piteşti , where he moved up in the 1973/74 season to the first team that played in Divizia A (now League 1 ). On September 30, 1973 he came in the game against Sportul Studențesc for his first use. After it was hardly used in its first season, it was included in the majority of games in the following years. In the 1976/77 season , Zamfir rose to become a regular player.

After several seasons in midfield of the league, Argeş developed into a top team from 1977. After the runner-up in 1978 , Zamfir won his first title with the 1979 championship . In the following European Cup , he moved with his club against AEK Athens in the second round, but was eliminated there against the eventual winner Nottingham Forest . In the following years he qualified for the UEFA Cup after two third places .

In 1984 Zamfir left his home club after eleven years and moved to league rivals FC Olt Scorniceşti . At FC Olt he became a regular player straight away and fought with the club against relegation. In the winter break of 1987/88 he left the club and moved to Divizia B for FC Inter Sibiu and rose to Divizia A with his new club at the end of the season. Nevertheless, he left the club and let his career with Dacia Piteşti in his hometown end.

National team

Mihai Zamfir played ten games for the Romanian national soccer team . He made his debut in the friendly against Bulgaria on May 5, 1978 , when he came on for the injured captain Florin Cheran . He was one of the regular players under national coach Ștefan Kovács , but was no longer considered by his successor Constantin Cernăianu from autumn 1979 .

In April 1981 Zamfir played under Valentin Stănescu in the friendly against Israel after a year and a half break, his last appearance in the national jersey.

Career as a coach

Zamfir began his coaching career at lower class clubs. After a stay at Dacia Piteşti, he trained in the 1992/93 season his former club FC Argeş Piteşti , which had just been relegated to Divizia B. He later moved to the third division club Chimica Târnăveni , with whom he was promoted to Divizia B in 1998. In May 1999, Zamfir was the successor to Nicolae Dobrin coach of FC Argeş Piteşti to lead the club in the UEFA Cup . He did not succeed despite six wins from seven games, so that the club only finished fourth at the end of the season. Although FC Argeş had started well in the following season , Zamfir was replaced by Florin Halagian in late August 1999 . At the beginning of 2000, he again replaced Halagian, although the club was in second place at that time. After only five points in eight games, however, he was released in April 2000 and replaced by Marian Bondrea , who could not save the season. Then Zamfir returned to Divizia B to Dacia Piteşti as a coach. In the summer of 2000, the club left its second division starting place FC Politehnica Timișoara and Zamfir also moved to Poli. There he could not stay long and took over the league competitor Național Cimentul Fieni during the season , with whom he was relegated to Divizia C in 2001 . The club then bought Metrom Braşov from the second division starting place and started the following season under the name Cimentul Fieni in Divizia B. Zamfir meanwhile returned to FC Argeş Piteşti and was assistant coach to Nicolae Dobrin, whose contract was after four matchdays of the season 2001/02 was dissolved. Zamfir also remained under Dobrin's successor, Florin Halagian, assistant coach of FC Arges.

In the 2003/04 season he looked after the second division team Dacia Mioveni together with Cornel Iliescu . On April 15, 2006 Zamfir succeeded Constantin Cârstea in the second division Apulum Alba Iulia . At the end of the season, the sporting relegation to League III was certain, but in the summer of 2006 Oltchim Râmnicu Vâlcea was able to buy the second division license and the club was now called Unirea Alba Iulia . Zamfir initially remained a coach, but resigned after a home defeat against FCU Politehnica II Timișoara on April 22, 2007 from his office.

On July 13, 2010, Zamfir Ion Vlădoiu replaced as a coach at FC Argeş Piteşti. Vlădoiu resigned after just two weeks and criticized the poor training conditions when he resigned. Zamfir resigned on July 29, 2010 for the same reasons.
