The Divizia A 1999/2000 was the 62nd season of the highest Romanian football league . It began on July 24, 1999 and ended on May 10, 2000 . Games were closed from mid-December to early March ( winter break ). After the season, the Divizia A was reduced to 16 teams.

The 18 teams played against each other twice on 34 match days. The four last-placed teams were relegated to Divizia B , while only two teams rose. There were three points for a win, one point for a draw and no points for a defeat. If two or more teams were tied at the end of the season, it was not the goal difference that decided , but the direct comparison .
