The FC Oneşti was a Romanian football club from Oneşti , Bacau County . From 1998 to 2000 he played in Divizia A , the highest Romanian football league.

history

In 1988, the club Mecon Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej , founded shortly before under the wing of the Întreprinderea de Utilaj Greu și Transport în Construcții (IUGTC), under coach Steluș Roşca, made it to Divizia C , the third highest division in the country. With Gheorghe Zaharia a new coach was hired and a new stadium was built by 1989 under the direction of Nicolae Wilhelm, the director of IUGTC Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej. Thanks to the financial support of Nicolae Puiu, who had made money through stays in Arab countries, a powerful team was built up that was able to place itself in the middle of the Divizia C in the following years. In the 1991/92 season the club changed its name to MECONERG Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej and two seasons later to Electro MECON Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej .

In 1994 Electro MECON merged with CSM Borzeşti , the largest club from neighboring Borzeşti , to form FC Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej . The new club took the place of Electro MECON in Divizia C, ended the 1994/95 season as runner-up of its season behind Foresta Fălticeni and rose after a win in the playoff against Flacăra Moreni . After the rise, the club in Divizia B did not play against relegation, but was able to place itself in the front midfield in the 1995/96 season. By renaming Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej in Oneşti, the club, financially supported by Nicolae Puiu , got its name FC Oneşti in 1996 .

After a fourth place in the following season, the club finished the 1997/98 season in second place of its season behind Astra Ploiesti . Again, a playoff against the runner-up in the parallel season, Electroputere Craiova , provided information about the promotion. The FC Oneşti prevailed 2-1 and was allowed to compete in the highest Romanian division, Divizia A , for the first time in the 1998/99 season .

In its first season, the club fought under coach Toader Șteț against relegation and secured relegation with a lead of 15 points in 16th place. In the second year the grapes hung higher. After the club had kept contact with the non-relegation places during the winter break, 16 points were missing at the end of the season to save 14th place and the club had to relegate for the first time in its history.

A league lower, the recovery was initially clearly missed with 10th place. In 2001, a group of business people took over the association and replaced the previous president Nicolae Puiu with the unionist Ion Marian. After a seventh place 2001/02 Oneşti knocked again in 2003 on the door to the House of Lords, missed the rise on third place behind Petrolul Ploieşti and Gloria Buzău. In the 2003/04 season, the team could not build on the performance of the previous year and was only in the lower midfield of its squadron during the winter break when the main sponsor, the local oil refinery RAFO , got out. The club withdrew from the game and broke up. An unpaid mountain of debt of 69 billion lei was left behind to the Romanian state.

Five years after its dissolution, the club was re-established in 2009 under the name Fotbal Club Municipal Oneşti ( German : Municipal Football Club ). After a season in League IV , he has been back in League III since 2010 .
