history
Flacăra Moreni was founded in 1922. In 1932 the club name was changed to Astra Moreni . In 1951 the name became Flacăra Moreni . After the merger with local rivals Automecanica Moreni in 1977, it was henceforth called Flacăra Automecanica Moreni , and since 1990 again Flacăra Moreni . Since 2004 the association has been operating under the name Petrom Flacăra Moreni .
In terms of sport, Flacăra was mostly at home in Divizia B and Divizia C , before the club made the leap into the highest Romanian football league, Divizia A , in 1986 under the leadership of the local Securitate general Ion Ghenoiu . There achieved in the season 1988/89 with the 4th place the best placement. This led to participation in the UEFA Cup in the following season, in which Flacăra was eliminated in the first round against FC Porto after two defeats. Also in the 1989/90 Flacăra rose from Divizia A.
After five years in the second division, the club rose in 1995 to Divizia C, where he spent twelve years. In 2005 Flacăra was one of the athletic relegated members from Divizia C, but remained in the league for two more years. Since relegation from Divizia C in 2007, Flacăra is now playing in the fourth-class League IV of the Dâmbovița district.
For cost reasons, the club now plays its home games in Valea Lunga, 13 kilometers away, and is kept alive through contributions from employees of the Schela de Petrol Moreni , whose union leader Gheorghe Ciobanu is also president of the club. In the 2010/11 season, the financially troubled club was after the end of the first half of the season on the penultimate place in the table and was shortly before the dissolution after the resignation of coach Costel Gyorgy in February 2011. Nevertheless, the club played the season under coach Alexandru Chivu to the end.
