Marin Dragnea (born January 1, 1956 in Slobozia Moară , Dâmbovița district ) is a former Romanian football player . He played a total of 405 games in the Romanian top division, Divizia A , and took part in the 1984 European Football Championship .

Career

Dragnea began his career with Progresul Bucharest at the age of 16 . In 1973 he came into the first team squad, which at that time in the second Romanian league, the Divizia B , played. The 1974/75 season he was able to complete with his team in second place behind Rapid Bucharest and thus just missed promotion.

In the same year, the Romanian top club Dinamo Bucharest Dragnea took under contract, but did not use him in the 1975/76 season , so that he had no share in the runner-up. In order to collect match practice, he moved to league rivals FC Constanța for one season . There he rose to become a regular player and managed to stay up with the club at the end of the season. He returned to Dinamo and was able to establish himself as an integral part of the team during the 1977/78 season . In the 1980/81 season he was able to prove his scoring threat for the first time when he scored nine goals. With the championship in 1982 he won his first title.

After another championship in the 1982/83 season , the 1983/84 season was the most successful in Dragnea's career. The third championship in a row followed with the cup victory in 1984, the double , which was crowned by his nomination for the European championship in France . In the European Champions Cup , Dinamo had previously reached the semi-finals after victories against defending champions Hamburger SV and the Soviet champions FK Dinamo Minsk and thus achieved the best result in the club's history. There the team was eliminated from the eventual winners Liverpool FC . With 15 goals, Dragnea achieved the best hit rate of his career in Divizia A.

After Dragnea was able to achieve eleven goals again in the 1984/85 season , but had to lag behind Steaua Bucharest in the national competitions , he was able to win a title for the last time with the 1986 cup . In the final, Steaua was defeated 1-0, which had previously won the European Cup in addition to the Romanian championship .

After almost ten years and the loss of his regular place, Dragnea left Dinamo in the winter break of 1986/87 and joined the newly promoted Flacăra Moreni . Here he found his old strength back when he led the club with ten goals in the 1987/88 season to sixth place. With fourth place a year later , the team even achieved the best placement in the club's history, which was associated with qualifying for the UEFA Cup . Dragnea remained below his possibilities with three goals.

After Moreni had to leave Divizia A as the only sporting relegated team at the end of the 1989/90 season , Dragnea moved to the promoted Rapid Bucharest , where he ended his career in 1991.

National team

Dragnea played five games for the Romanian national team and remained without a goal. In the summer of 1984 national coach Mircea Lucescu nominated him for the Romanian squad for the European Championship in France , although he had not previously played a single international match. In the first group game against Spain on June 14, 1984, he ran from the start. Lucescu also built on him in the second game against Germany , but left him on the bench in the final encounter against Portugal .

After the European Championship, Lucescu waived - apart from a friendly against Israel in November 1984 - on the services of Dragnea. In March 1986 he brought him back for two international matches against Iraq , where Dragnea acted as captain. It was then no longer taken into account.
