Anthony Cox

Anthony Cox (born October 24, 1954 in Ardmore / Oklahoma ) is an American jazz bassist.

Cox grew up in Minneapolis and studied music at the University of Wisconsin . He then went to Minneapolis to study with the Minnesota Orchestra's first bassist , James Clute . In 1981 he went to New York, where he soon worked with musicians such as Sam Rivers , Elvin Jones , Henry Threadgill , David Murray and Craig Harris , and later Stan Getz , John Scofield , Kenny Burrell , Dewey Redman and Arthur Blythe . He was a member of the bands of Anthony Davis , James Newton , Günther Wehinger and Marty Ehrlich .

In addition to numerous recordings as a sideman, he has also made several albums as a band leader since the 1990s.
