After the ascent he made his debut on 12 August 1990 in Divizia A . After playing for Aris Thessaloniki in the Greek Alpha Ethniki for six months , he moved to FC Brașov in the summer . There he made his breakthrough. He always played with Brașov against relegation, but drew attention to himself with many goals. In the 1993/94 season he was able to achieve 16 goals and ended up in third place on the top scorer list.

In the summer of 1994, the top club Dinamo Bucharest took Ivan under contract. In the season 1994/95 he was part of the team that was able to occupy third place at the end of the season. In August 1995, however, he left Romania and hired the Cypriot first division club AE Paphos . At the turn of the year he was drawn to the Greek club Panionios Athens . His time in Greece was not very successful because he and his team had to be relegated from the Alpha Ethniki at the end of the season .

Ivan returned to Romania, where he signed for the second time with FC Brașov. However, his renewed engagement lasted only six months before he left the club in the winter break, lying in last place, again to Dinamo Bucharest. There he was only used irregularly and completed 17 assignments in one year. At the beginning of 1998, the relegation-threatened local rival Sportul Studențesc got him . Ivan could not prevent relegation and in the summer of 1998 went again to FC Brașov in Divizia B. In the 1998/99 season he contributed 17 goals to promotion and was able to build on previous performances. He confirmed this in the 1999/2000 season , when he secured relegation to his team with 16 goals.

At the beginning of 2001, Ivan moved to Henan Jianye in the Chinese Jia-A League . After a season he returned to Romania, where he was hired by second division Bucovina Suceava . He was rarely used and changed in the summer of 2003 to FC Ghimbav 2000 in the Divizia C . He ended his active career there in 2004.
