The Cypriot First Division ( Greek: Παγκύπριο Πρωτάθλημα Α΄ Κατηγορίας ) is the highest football league in the Republic of Cyprus . It has been sponsored by the state telephone operator CYTA since 2016 and has been called the Cyta Championship since then . It is hosted by the Cypriot Football Association .
mode
The twelve teams first play against each other twice in a round-trip round on 22 match days. The teams in places 1 to 6 in the championship round will then determine who will qualify for the UEFA Champions League . The second and third placed will take part in the qualification for the UEFA Europa League , for which the winner of the cup competition also qualifies.
In the relegation round, the clubs in places 7 to 12 play from the preliminary round. The last two teams are relegated.
The results of the preliminary round are transferred to the championship and relegation round. If two or more teams are tied at the end of the season, the goal difference is not decisive, but the direct comparison .
