The Prva Crnogorska Liga (Prva crnogorska fudbalska liga) is the top division in Montenegrin football . The league, founded after the independence of Montenegro in the summer of 2006, consists of twelve clubs and is organized by the national football association, the Fudbalski Savez Crne Gore .
mode
The ten teams play against each other four times in one season, so that the national champions are determined after 36 match days. The Montenegrin champions take part in the qualification for the Champions League , the second and third placed play in the 1st round and the cup winners in the 2nd round of the qualification for the Europa League . The teams that are eighth and ninth at the end of the season will play a relegation match against the second and third in the Druga Crnogorska League , while the tenth will be relegated directly to the country's second division.
history
The Prva Crnogorska Liga was formed in 2006 from the Montenegrin teams of the former joint league with Serbia and from clubs of the former Montenegrin national league. The first game of the new league took place on August 11, 2006 between FK Rudar Pljevlja and FK Budućnost Podgorica and ended with a 2-0 win for FK Budućnost Podgorica. The autumn champions became the team of FK Budućnost Podgorica, which had three points ahead of arch rivals FK Zeta Golubovci , who ultimately prevailed and won the first championship.
In the second season 2007/08 Budućnost Podgorica was able to win his first title, in second place followed defending champion Zeta Golubovci tied on points before the also tied FK Mogren Budva . The FK Mogren was then in the season 2008/09 champions before Budućnost Podgorica. The 2009/10 championship title finally went to FK Rudar Pljevlja, Budućnost Podgorica was again runner-up. In 2011, FK Mogren Budva won their second championship title tied before Budućnost Podgorica. In the following year, FK Budućnost finally managed to win the second championship title, and in the following two seasons, FK Sutjeska Nikšić took the title. Since the city rival of the 2013/14 title holder , FK Čelik Nikšić , had to withdraw from the game before the 2014/15 season due to financial problems, FK Mornar Bar , who was actually relegated to the sport, was allowed to stay in the league and will continue to do so in the Prva Liga.
In the 2007/2008 season, the first clubs of the Prva Crnogorska Liga took part in UEFA competitions. As Montenegro still had no points in the UEFA five-year standings , the league only received the minimum number of starting places, one in the 1st qualifying round for the Champions League , one in the 1st qualifying round for the UEFA Cup and one in the 1st round of the Intertoto Cups . A second place in the UEFA Cup qualification went to the cup winner. Since the 2009/10 season, the Prva Crnogorska Liga has one starting place in the qualification for the Champions League and three (including the cup winner) in the qualification for the Europa League .
