Wolf Rilla
Wolf Rilla (born March 16, 1920 as Wolfgang Peter Rilla in Berlin-Charlottenburg , † October 19, 2005 in Grasse , France ) was a British film director and screenwriter of German origin.
life and work
Rilla was the son of the actor Walter Rilla and his Jewish mother Theresa Klausner. In 1934 the family emigrated to Great Britain to escape the emergence of National Socialism . On October 5, 1942, he was expatriated by the National Socialists.
After finishing school, Rilla worked for the BBC , where he participated in propaganda programs for the German Service. In the early 1950s he worked as a screenwriter and film director for British cinema. In contrast to his father, Rilla did not return to Germany because he no longer saw himself as a German and, after retiring, moved to France, where he became the manager of a hotel.
