The Erovnuli Liga ( Georgian უმაღლესი ლიგა, in German Oberste Liga ) is the highest football league in Georgia . The league has been organized by the Georgian Football Association since 1990 . From 1927 to 1989 the Umaghlessi League was a regional competition within the Soviet Union .

mode

Sixteen teams took part in the tournament from the 2014/15 season, as they did until the 1999/2000 season. The Georgian Football Association decided on August 3, 2016 to switch match operations to calendar mode. A transition season with 14 teams will be played in autumn 2016, and from 2017 only ten teams will take part in the top division. At the same time the name was changed to Erovnuli Liga ( Georgian ეროვნული ლიგა, to German National League ).

The champions take part in the second qualifying round for the UEFA Champions League . The second, third and the cup winners play in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League . If the cup winner is already qualified via the league place, the fourth moves up. If two or more teams are tied at the end of the season, the goal difference is not decisive, but the direct comparison .
