Heinz-Ulrich Walther (born March 11, 1943 in Stendal ) is a former German figure skater who started pair skating for the GDR .

biography

Heinz-Ulrich Walther competed for SC Dynamo Berlin . His first figure skating partner was Brigitte Wokoeck . With her he was GDR champion in pair skating in 1962 and 1964 . Together they took part in two European championships . They finished sixth on their debut in 1962 and eighth in 1963 . She finished in tenth place at the 1964 Olympic Games in Innsbruck .

In 1964 the couple separated and from then on Walther ran together with Heidemarie Steiner , whom he married in 1969. In 1966, 1967, 1969 and 1970 they became East German champions . They took part in world and European championships from 1966 to 1970 . At the European Championships in 1967 , 1968 and 1970 they won the bronze medal. They won their only medal at world championships with bronze behind the Soviet couples Irina Rodnina and Alexei Ulanow and Lyudmila Smirnowa and Andrei Suraikin at the 1970 World Cup in Ljubljana . It was the first medal in pair skating for the GDR at world figure skating championships. At the 1968 Olympic Games in Grenoble , they were fourth to miss a medal. Your trainer was Heinz-Friedrich Lindner .

Heinz-Ulrich Walther studied medicine and worked at the Charité in Berlin . Until his retirement he was an academic assistant at the Clinic for Orthopedics .

He was also active as an international figure skating judge and international technical controller for pair skating.
