Heidemarie Steiner , married. Walther-Steiner or Steiner-Walther (born May 9, 1944 in Kolberg , Pomerania ) is a former German figure skater , who competed in single and pair skating for the GDR , and figure skating trainer.

biography

Steiner started out as a single runner. In 1960 she became GDR champion . She took part in two European championships . In 1960 she was 26th and in 1961 she was 23rd. She was ousted in the GDR figure skating hierarchy by Gabriele Seyfert and wanted to end her career.

However, she then switched to pair skating and henceforth competed with Heinz-Ulrich Walther , whom she married in 1969 and chose Walther-Steiner or Steiner-Walther as her surname. In 1966, 1967, 1969 and 1970 the couple became East German champions . They took part in world and European championships from 1966 to 1970 . At the European Championships in 1967 , 1968 and 1970 they won the bronze medal. They won their only medal at world championships with bronze behind the Soviet couples Irina Rodnina and Alexei Ulanow and Lyudmila Smirnowa and Andrei Suraikin at the 1970 World Cup in Ljubljana . It was the first medal in pair skating for the GDR at world figure skating championships. At the 1968 Olympic Games in Grenoble , they were fourth to miss a medal. Your trainer was Heinz-Friedrich Lindner .

After finishing her figure skating career and studying at the DHfK , Steiner-Walther became a trainer at SC Dynamo Berlin (now SC Berlin). There she trained among others Romy Kermer and Rolf Oesterreich , Birgit Lorenz and Knut Schubert , Babette Preußler and Tobias Schröter , Katrin Kanitz , Peggy Schwarz and Alexander König as well as Simone Koch . She later trained and choreographed for the Swiss couple Leslie Monod & Cedric Monod . In the 2013-14 season she supervised a. a. the German runner-up Franz Streubel at the European Championships in Budapest. In 1976 she was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit for her achievements as a trainer .

Today she lives again in Berlin, together with husband Heinz-Ulrich Walther.
