Simone Koch , married Simone Schnabel , (born October 25, 1969 in Dresden ) is a former German figure skater of the SC Einheit Dresden .

biography

Simone Koch learned her first triple jumps from Ingeburg Walter. She later trained with Ingrid Lehmann and Heidemarie Steiner-Walther in Berlin.

In 1983, at the age of 14, Koch became World Junior Champion for the GDR . In 1984 she was defeated by another GDR runner at the Junior World Championships: Karin Hendschke . In the following years Simone Koch was always a direct competitor of Katarina Witt . Koch was GDR runner-up in 1984 and 1988, behind Katarina Witt . In 1989 Simone Koch was one of the favorites for the European title. However, she could not prevail at the GDR championships against Evelyn Großmann and Simone Lang , was only third and thus missed the qualification for the European championship.

She is married to Günter Schnabel and has been called Simone Schnabel ever since, the couple have two daughters and a son. She started again at the German championships in Unna in 1992 and again in Mannheim in 1993 for SC Berlin, but could no longer qualify for international championships.
